Ganzer Leads with Even 69 at TCH Euro Classic

The TCG (TwinCitiesGolf.com) Euro classic kicked off Saturday at BIRDI Golf in Woodbury, MN. 17 Players of all skill levels played in the first Official IGL and BIRDI Cup event. The Tournament is taking place from January 11-17th and the course is the Celtic Manor Resort - Montgomerie Course, a short, but difficult track with blind shots, dramatic elevation changes and undulating greens. Although not particularly long, the course proved challenging and ball placement on the greens from the approach was key to ensuring uphill putts and avoiding trouble. Jake Ganzer, a local player lead the competition after day one with a consistent 69. Never more than 2 over par throughout the round, Ganzer needed a 22 foot birdie putt to drop at 18 in order to close out the even round.

Ganzer Scorecard:

Brad Roigers, finished the day in second off a respectable round of 73 including. Roigers had several birdie chances, but the putts weren't falling on this Saturday, but with the 73, Roigers is in position to pickup 315 points.

Roigers Scorecard:

Ronnie Christensen, one of the early favorites to win the inaugural TCG Euro Classic, got off to a bit of a rocky start and never recovered, posting at 12 over on the day. The tight lies and difficult greens proved too much on this day where typically on target, Christensen hit only 53% of fairways and 50% of greens in reg, with several penalties contributing to the difficult round. Expect a bounce back in coming weeks from Christensen, a staunch competitor with great feel around the greens and consistently low scores.

Play continues this week and will conclude on Friday January 17th at BIRDI Golf in Woodbury Minnesota.
